Hello Friends. Welcome to the ever changing-ever growing site for youth happenings at Newberg Friends! If you are interested in getting involved, whether you are a student, a parent, or an adult that would like to express your gifts and passions through youth ministry, you can email or call me anytime.

There are a variety of ways for you to become a part of our growing community. If you’re just interested in having fun with us, there are monthly events for the simple and unashamed purpose of getting us together and having a good time. If you’re interested in serving the poor, we regularly volunteer with Bridgetown Ministries in Portland, under the Burnside Bridge. We also volunteer locally with Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers and Love Inc. If you’re interested in growing deeper in your relationship with God, we can hook you up with a small group of others that want the same thing, or we can connect you with a loving, good-listening adult who is happy to take you out for coffee and listen to your story. What is it that you want out of a youth group? What is the unique thing about you that you would bring to our group?

I’m excited to see us become a loving, Christ-centered, radically-obedient Community!

WHY isn't there a WILD WAVES trip this year!?!

For almost two decades Newberg Friends has joined up with other area Friends youth groups to go to Wild Waves at the end of the summer. Other than camp, it has been the highest attended event of the year. So why would we leave it out this summer?

In the past we've gone to Wild Waves for these reasons: it was a fun and unusual activity that most kids don't get to do very often and it provided another opportunity for different Friends youth groups to do something together.

Last year, the youthworkers returned with some observations: we spent almost 8 hours driving to and from Wild Waves. Most youth spent more than $40. Once we got to Wild Waves, kids split into small groups and really didn't interact with the other youth groups anyway, and though our group was modestly dressed, many people at Wild Waves were not. So, in summary, the event wasn't really accomplishing anything that we say is most important to us as youth groups and we were paying a lot of money on top of that.

So we created an alternative! Next Tuesday, July 15, several Friends youth groups are meeting up at Fern Ridge Lake near Eugene. And for less than half the price, and half the travel time, we can spend the whole day together swimming, boating, skiing, playing volleyball and ultimate frisbee, and BBQ'ing our own food. Check out the details on the attached calendar. This event is for high school students and if it goes over well, we'll make it an event for middles school students as well and it will be our new summer tradition.

Peace. Joy. Laughter. Hope.
