Sunday School
Designed for sixth through eighth graders, this ministry provides a worshipful environment combined with age-appropriate Bible teaching and topical book studies. A team of adult teachers take turns coordinating a variety of large- and small-group discussions and hands-on learning experiences. This is a great opportunity for youth to grow in their relationship with Christ as well as with others. The middle school class meets in the Youth House from 9 to 10:15 a.m. each Sunday.

Youth Group
Middle school youth from Newberg and North Valley Friends churches start up the new school year with youth group from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15. Youth will meet each Wednesday at the Youth House.

Bible Quizzing
Bible Quizzing is a fun and rewarding program for those interested in learning the Bible and who love competition and road trips. It provides a mix of Bible memorization and content understanding. The next quizzing season will focus on the gospel of John and starts with a planning meeting and lunch after the second service on Sunday, September 12. This year's quiz meets will be in Newberg (October); at Quaker Hill Camp in McCall, Idaho (December); at Eugene Friends (January); and at Hayden Friends in Idaho (March). Call Eric at (503) 538-8381, ext 106, for more information.
Outreach

Mexico Serve Trips
This cross-cultural missions trip provides Newberg-area youth and their families with an opportunity to serve the people of a San Luis church to which we've been ministering for almost two decades. Projects include building and repairing homes, installing bathrooms in homes we've built on past trips, and a semi-annual reunion with the many families and church members we've worked with over the years. North Valley Friends and West Chehalem Friends Church join with us in this ministry. Our next trip is scheduled for Spring Break 2011.

Service Projects
Service projects are a great opportunity for the youth of our congregation to live out their faith while making a difference in the community. Service projects have been done in conjunction with Faith In Action and Love INC . The middle school service retreat traditionally takes place each year on a weekend in May. Students also help with Serve & Celebrate on a weekend in September.

Discipleship

One-On-One
This is an opportunity for youth to be discipled or mentored by an adult, allowing for personal and spiritual growth.

Small Groups
It is important to address the needs of individual youth, and small groups help provide them a sense of identification and belonging. Small groups for Middle School students create an encouraging and affirming environment, enabling youth to explore their values, beliefs, and questions while applying God's word to their lives.
Camps / Retreats

Junior High Jamboree (February)
This four-day weekend retreat for middle schoolers serves as an opportunity for fellowship and spiritual challenge. The focus is primarily on fun and activities with teaching and instruction woven into all the events. This is a great opportunity for middle schoolers to get away and meet up with new and old friends from other churches.

Junior High Jamboree takes place during President's Day weekend (February 18-21) at Twin Rocks Friends Camp.

Tween Camp (July)
July 10-16 is set aside for middle schoolers to head to Tween Camp. Meeting at Twin Rocks Friends Camp at Rockaway Beach on the Oregon Coast, youth get the chance to be challenged in their walk with Christ, make new friends, and have fun at the beach.

Youth Yearly Meeting (July)
Youth Yearly Meeting, designed for middle schoolers and high schoolers, has a strong focus on leadership development and application of faith to modern society. Special speakers and service projects enhance this fun, challenging and worthwhile conference for Northwest Yearly Meeting youth.

Samuel School I (October)
Alternating between the Idaho mountains and the Oregon coast, this retreat provides a strong challenge for spiritual development. Two to three Middle School students from each Friends church in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho are selected by local youth leaders and church elders for their openness to the Spirit of God and evidence of potential leadership gifts. They are then paired up with an adult mentor (an Eli) who journeys with them for the six months following the retreat.
