Sunday School
Designed for sixth through eighth graders, this ministry provides a worshipful environment combined with age-appropriate Bible teaching and topical book studies. A team of adult teachers take turns coordinating a variety of large- and small-group discussions and hands-on learning experiences. This is a great opportunity for youth to grow in their relationship with Christ as well as with others. The middle school class meets in the Youth House from 9 to 10:15 a.m. each Sunday.

Youth Group
Middle school youth from Newberg-area churches meet together for conversation, games, food and a chance to discuss the examples of youth and young adults in the Bible, who made a difference in their world, each Wednesday, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the Youth House (215 S College).

Bible Quizzing
Bible Quizzing is a fun and rewarding program for those interested in learning the Bible and who love competition and road trips. It provides a mix of Bible memorization and content understanding. We are studying the epistles of Hebrews, I & II Peter. Remaining quiz meets will be hosted at Boise Friends in Idaho (March) and Reedwood Friends in Portland (April). Practices take place each Sunday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Youth House.
Outreach

Equipo (formerly GAGA)
This cross-cultural missions trip provides Newberg-area youth and their families with an opportunity to serve the people of Nueva Esperanza, a San Luis church with whom we've been ministering for more than a decade. Projects in 2011 included three homes, two Sunday school rooms, chicken coops, a vacation Bible school, and a semi-annual reunion with the many families and church members we've worked with over the years. North Valley and West Chehalem Friends churches join with us in this ministry. The next trip is scheduled for Spring Break 2013.

Service Projects
Service projects are a great opportunity for the youth of our congregation to live out their faith while making a difference in the community. Service projects have been done in conjunction with Faith In Action and Love INC . The middle school service retreat traditionally takes place each year on a weekend in May.

Discipleship

One-On-One
This is an opportunity for youth to be discipled or mentored by an adult, allowing for personal and spiritual growth.

Small Groups
It is important to address the needs of individual youth, and summer small groups help provide them with a sense of identification and belonging by creating an encouraging and affirming environment, enabling youth to explore their values, beliefs, and questions while applying God's word to their lives. Groups form at the beginning of June each year and are limited in size to 10 participants, usually separated by gender. Contact Eric at (503) 538-8381, ext 106, for information on how to get involved.
Camps / Retreats

Junior High Jamboree (February)
This four-day weekend retreat for middle schoolers serves as an opportunity for fellowship and spiritual challenge. The focus is primarily on fun and activities with teaching and instruction woven into all the events. This is a great opportunity for middle schoolers to get away and meet up with new and old friends from other churches.

Junior High Jamboree takes place during President's Day weekend at Twin Rocks Friends Camp. Find more information online.

Tween Camp (July)
July 10-16 is set aside for middle schoolers to head to Tween Camp. Meeting at Twin Rocks Friends Camp at Rockaway Beach on the Oregon Coast, Tween Camp is a place where lifelong friendships and memories are made. Find more information online .

Youth Yearly Meeting (July)
Youth Yearly Meeting (YYM) is designed as a leadership training conference for students involved in the Friends Church who have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. The main focus is for youth to learn about and experience Quaker business and interact with the adult Yearly Meeting. During the week middle school and senior high school people meet together to worship. They meet separately to practice Quaker business under the leadership of their peers who fill the roles of YYM officers. This is also done with the guidance of encouraging adults. Participation in a service project, a youth facilitated evening worship with the adults, and a trip to the beach all work together to create a well-rounded growth and leadership experience. Find more information and register online.

Samuel School I (October)
Alternating between the Idaho mountains and the Oregon coast, this retreat provides a strong challenge for spiritual development. Two to three Middle School students from each Friends church in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho are selected by local youth leaders and church elders for their openness to the Spirit of God and evidence of potential leadership gifts. They are then paired up with an adult mentor (an Eli) who journeys with them for the six months following the retreat.
